It is perhaps one of the biggest TV events of the year, Super Bowl Sunday. Sports fan flock
to see the game, and everyone else wants to see the ads. With that many eye balls ad space
is at a premium. $3 million bucks was the cost of the average commercial this year so companies REALLY
need to spend that money wisely and get some serious buzz after the initial airing. Unfortunately for
Groupon, the buzz they are getting is NOT the kind they wanted.
Apparently someone at Groupon and their ad agency forgot to put on their "no f'ing way" hat the day the ad was approved
and they thought it would be funny to poke fun at Tibet. NOT exactly a great way to sell coupons
guys.
Personally, I removed their app off my phone after the commercial, and I'll be going in and closing my account
all together just so they know they REALLY cant get away with this kind of crap. There are plenty
of other coupon a day companies out there to take their place. Lets just hope THEY have a bit more sensativity.
Their blunder was so large in fact, that at one point Groupon was a trending topic on Google Trends. NOT exactly the
sort of thing you want to be trending for.
