While shopping this weekend at a local Garden store I had a woman approach me asking me if had tried
using my iPhone as a bar code scanner. She was wondering if it worked well. Unfortunately, I did
not have one installed at the time of her question but when I got home later I installed one I had heard
about from a friend called
RedLaser.
The app was easy enough to use. One you start it, you simply press a button to start the "scan" process which involves
you positioning the bar code on the item your scanning within two marked bars. Once it "sees" the code, it will
initiate a search on Google and thefind.com to help find local deals.
In my case I scanned three items. A book, a piece of orange Hot Wheels track, and a package of HP Premium Plus photo paper.
All three resulted in a correct identification though I only got back what I would call "usable" results
on the HP paper. I will show the results on that session below in pictures so you can see the interface and
screens.
