The late night landscape is going through yet another major shake up after NBC pulls the plug, at the
cost of $40 million plus, to buy out Conan O'Brien and bring back Jay Leno as the host of the Tonight
Show.
If you forget about the fact this is all happening because his ratings stunk and nobody was watching, there
is a rather large vocal community of followers who are pretty pissed off at NBC and they are letting
them know it.
Conan, or Coco as he's now lovingly called, seems to be winning the PR war against NBC. Jay Leno
who really had nothing to do with this fray is now enemy #1 in their eyes and I think you can expect
there to be some ratings drop off because of it when he returns.
Twitter has has Conan as a trending topic every night this week it seems, and like the whole Twilight "who's team" are you
on there was even some "Team CoCo" shirts floating around.
My take? Who cares. I have not watched late night in years. I cant stand Leno so when Johnny left I stopped
watching. I always enjoyed Letterman because I thought he was good at the interview portions of his
show but I think he's kinda lost it, and needs to retire.
I'd actually sort of hope that CBS and Letterman agree to an exit and bring on Conan so Leno and CoCo end
up going head to head. I suspect CoCo would win based on current outcry.
