Well written headlines can spell traffic or online obscurity to a news article. But in some cases,
even badly written copy can gain you a certain amount of exposure and notoriety.
Take for example the funny headlines spot on the
tonight show with Jay
Leno. That was one of his more popular on-going segments. Of course, many will tell you that he stole the idea
from
David Letterman. Actually, I hear that he stole a lot of his gags from Letterman. Why Carson passed over Letterman and
gave the show to Leno I'll never understand. Leno sucks. Letterman certainly has lost his mojo over the years but he can
run circles about Leno and his pathetic interview skills. Congrats on your recent marriage David! Sorry, side tangent.
Anywho, back to the art of unfortunate headlines.
There is a local TV
news stations website that I visit on an almost daily basis during the week and I have
created a quick list of funny but unfortunate headlines that you I could not help but click on. Whether these were "accidents"
or deliberate eye-catchers is hard to say. But the end result WAS me clicking on the articles which is what it's all about.
Unfortunate Headlines:
- David Beckham's Junk Jostled by Journalist | article
- Poor, poor man gets his penis stuck in a steel pipe |
- And speaking of Tiger Woods Penis | article
- Loch Ness Golf Balls | video
- Nicole Richie Rear-Ended By Paparazzi | article
- Arguette Calls Off Divorce From Hung Actor | article
- Swift Beef Recall: Beware of tainted "butt ball tip" | article
- Dam sinkhole raises flooding fears along Green River | article
- Trucker stops to relieve himself, loses load | article
- ABC Cancels Samantha Who? | article
- WHO raises pandemic alert level | article
Whether you chalk this up to creative marketing or just really bad quality assurance checks, I think you cant help but laugh.
