I am not a huge horror movie fan. After having watched the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie in the dark when I was young over at a friends
house and we both basically crap'd our pants I've just never really had the stomach for them. But I do have a few exceptions.
I do enjoy The Thing and The Shining to name a couple.
This past week while surfing
Comcast On Demand I randomly selected a movie called Silent Hill simply because it mentioned it was based upon
a video game. I know I know, never judge a book by it's cover. It was late, I was bored, so I took a shot.
All I can say is "two thumbs up!". I had all of the lights off and instead of freaking out or turning it off as I sometimes do with horror
movies I found myself actually siting on the edge of my couch totally involved with the movie.
The first thing that caught my attention was that it had
Sean Bean and
Radha Mitchell. Both actors that I enjoy. Sean actually shows up in a
great number of movies that I own such as the Lord of the Ring series, Ronin, The Island, National Treasure and Golden Eye to name a few. I have
only recognized Radha from one other movie that I really enjoy and that is Pitch Black staring Vin Diesel where she plays another strong
leading women character.
Without giving away too much the movie follows a women by the name of Rose Da Silva, played by Radha Mitchell, who's young daughter Sharon has
been having nightmares and speaks of "Silent Hill". As it turns out Silent Hill is a ghost town abandoned due to underground fires, but it was also
the location of a terrible fire, and a terrible secret.
Rose takes her child to Silent Hill and enters a living nightmare.
The Visual AND audio work are marvelous. Instead of being scared to death I found it to be mezmorizing. The creatures in the film are
really amazing. For example, The Red Pyramid character is wicked. Then there are the nurses, the janitor, the minors....oh, I dare not
say more and spoil it for you.
If you like horror movies, are a fan of either Sean or Radha, I recommend Silent Hill.
