How To Make iPod Touch Photo Albums

Besides the ability to listen to music and play games and applications, the iPod Touch allows you to view photos you upload to it. While I wont go into the complete failure of Apple to include a camera on the Touch, I'll instead focus on how to create new photo albums within the photo application button.

After several months of owning my touch I noticed I was using it more and more as a way to share and keep photos with me. Essentially, it has replaced the old plastic photo sleeves I used to keep in my wallet. My problem was there did not appear to be any way to create and organize different photo albums other then the default one listed simply as "Photo Library".

Those who are familiar with the touch will recognize this as the default album as well as another called "saved photo's" which is where any screen shots you take and misc. photo applications you might buy will save your work.

After some trial and error I came to understand the process of making new albums within the application is pretty simple.

Here are the steps to create unique albums on the iPod Touch.

1. Create photo sync folder and sub directories

Whatever folder you have created in order to store the photos you will sync to your ipod, simply create sub folders using the names of the albums you want to create. In short, if you want to have a album of just flower pictures, create a sub folder called "flowers".

2. Sync and Verify

Sync your iPod using the latest version of the iTunes desktop application pointing your photos sync to this new folder. Once the sync is complete, simply click on the photos application button and verify that you see the new albums you just created.

One thing to note is that the pictures you put into a specific album, will ALSO be available to see when you are viewing the default "photo library" album. Not sure I really like this feature, but it is what it is.

I've been enjoying this album theme creation for the last week or so and it really cuts down on finding a particular picture quickly. I do wish the touch interface had a way to create albums directly on the device and you could touch/select which items to move into the new album. Who knows, maybe in the future. Better yet, I would just assume have a CAMERA on the touch. After all, why introduce all of this photo support if you cant even take a picture with the device? I wouldn't care even if it was a crappy camera...i just want the ability to take simple/stupid snap shots. I'm not looking for 10 megapixel art work.

Are you listening Apple?
