Ferry Kalakala Flying Bridge Design

Steve Rodriques, owner of the Kalakala, otherwise known as floating wreck, floating museum or scrape metal depending on whom you ask, has released his latest plans on how to rescue the old ferry from oblivion. He calls is the "Flying Bridge" design and is pushing it to the city of Tacoma, and anyone else in Washington State that will listen.

In this down economy he's using the leverage that it will "create jobs" but says the plan would cost $80-100 million dollars. Really? He wants public money for his private venture? Does he think he's the MLB or NBA or something?

Personally...I think this looks like Crap-a-la.

Just because somthing is old does not mean it should be saved for posterity sake. If the maritime industry was truly engaged and thought it was historic they would have rescued it and put it into some ship floating museum by now. Instead it was found sunk in Alaska and had to be bought at private auction where it's been involved in more lawsuits then you can shake a stick at.

In it's hayday the ferry kalakala serviced the Washington State Pugest Sound area from 1935 until it's retirement in 1967.
