The popularity explosion of social networks like Facebook and Twitter are causing another explosion, divorces.
According to
research
and attorneys, facebook is specifically mentioned in 20% of divorce filings by name.
It seems people were doing a little more then "posting", pun intended, onto their pages. Facebook hookups and
flirting apparently is taking a very real toll on marriages. As if marriage was not hard already. People are
hooking up with old flames or wanna be flames from their past and taking things further then they should go. Saying
things that should not be said.
I wonder who will be the first person to physically SUE Facebook for helping facilitate the breakup of their
marriage? There have been crazy lawsuits, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before that becomes a reality.
According to CDC
records, looking at
year 2008 data, 7.1 people out of 1,000 were getting married. On the flip side, 3.6 people were getting a divorce so
it looks like roughly 50% plus of marriage are doomed for failure anyways. Apparently the days of
irreconcilable differences is taking on a new twist in the age of tweets and status updates!
