Host of numerous popular radio and tv shows such as Loveline and
Celebrity Rehab, Dr. Drew Pinsky can now add one more credit
to his name: Twitter Sell Out
Yes boys and girls, we all know that Twitter has become a social power house not only due to the strangely addictive nature of
sending out those 140 character or less "tweets" to our "peeps" but due to the ability to break news faster then CNN and rumors more
full of holes then TMZ. However,
Twitter has one ugly problem and that is the sheer volume of noise created by all the spammers sending
out get rich schemes and THE secret for white teeth. (It's called a tooth brush by the way!)
The user base and "inventory" that these users create, consider each tweet a unit of inventory, is potential gold for
advertisers. The
more followers you have, the more your worth. That being said, enter stage right: Dr. Drew and an ad agency Ad.ly.
Dr. Drew apparently has been paid a fee to allow Ad.ly to send out an ad to his 1 million plus followers.
On a certain level, I get it. Twitter is so full of people sending ads that this really is not any different, but it is.
Personally, my opinion, I think this somehow breaks some unspoken rule we twits have. I think he's broken a trust.
Am I weird to think this?
If I WAS following him, I would un-follow him because of this.
