A
CNN Article dated
6/13 talks about a weapon fragment found in a bowhead whale that dates back some 115-130 years dating the
whale back to the 1800's.
While this is a really interesting from a historical point of view it does make one
quick comment slip through my brain..."Why the hell are people still whaling?!?!? At the end of the article it mentions
how "whaling has always been a prominent source of food for Alaskans." Uhhhh, have they never heard
of McDonalds? Honestly, how can anyone listen to
whale song and think "Damn, I need to go kill that".
I remember the
Makah Indians some time ago had tried to revive whaling. It did not seem to be so much a "food" thing as it was a
"hey, our ancestors did this so we should be allowed to". I'm sorry folks, times change.
There are only so many whales left. It sure would be nice if my grand kids grand kids could see them.
Save the whales!!
