Well it's getting close to summer and you know what that means...higher gas prices. My car has been off getting repaired
for several weeks so I have not have the fortunate (unfortunate?) task of putting gas into a car so imagine my shock the other day when
I had to put gas in my wifes car. OH DEAR GOD!! Unleaded was like $3.35 and I could not force myself to look at the other prices as I
assumed they would simply say "arm" and "leg". The sad but true part of this is that in the next few months we will be reading about
record profits at the gas companies yet again.
Last summer when gas prices were getting insane the whole electric or hybrid car market seemed to heat up. It seemed to almost be a mortal sin
if you were caught driving around town in an SUV. Then, summer changed to winter, gas prices fell below $3 a gallon and everyone took a
collective breath of air and moved on with their lives again. Now, we are pushing the mid range of $3 again with the prospect of hitting
$4 a gallon, or so I've heard on the radio, this summer.
Washington State just fired a shot over the bow of gas companies launching yet another "
investigation"
into why prices are so high. This will go no where of course as they always do. The only thing I can really say about this topic is that
collectively we all need to buy cars that get better gas mileage or figure out this whole alternative fuel source issue. There is after all only
so much oil on this planet. We HAVE to figure out another energy source. Forget the whole global warming and going to war to protect the
oil fields articles. This is product (oil) that will some day be all gone. The sooner we figure out a solution the better. Big oil is
clearly not going to figure it out for us. I mean, lets face it...it's kind of counter productive to what they are trying to do; sell us more oil.
In the short term, all we can do is try to
find cheap gas.
