In my youth I used to play the roll playing game
Dungeons and Dragons. I generally played a Ranger. I guess I always fancied myself
a tree hugging, bambi saving killer back then or something. At any rate, these days I think most teens and 20 something's just play
role playing games online where you can visually see yourself do battle with the legions of the underworld. I have played my fair share
of these types of games though I selected shooters myself.
Half Life, Diablo, etc. I tried playing one of the massive "community" fantasy
games but I just was unable to get into it. After being a admin on a server I played at regularly with a team I pretty much gave up on group play
simply because of all the dorks fragging their own team, etc. I prefer a good solo campaign game at the hardest level just to make
thing interesting.
However, tonight I saw something that made me sit back and chuckle.
Due to a time crunch before an event we took the kids to the neighborhood Denny's...(the kids request). About half way through our
dinner a group of 4 guys walked in sat down. Now these guys had to be I'd say 18-21. I was trying not to pay attention to them but I
kept hearing words like "fireball" and "damage score" so I pointed an ear in their direction. What were they talking about? Their grand
battle plan on how to get past a level in an online game or some sort. I don't think I had even seen anything so nerdy in my entire life.
Meeting at Denny's going over your team strategy on how to get past a level. These guys were talking everything from possible spells to
utilize to a brute force gang war.
I had one thing rolling over and over again in my mind...
These guys are NEVER gonna get layed!
